Harnessing Negativity for Positivity
Feb 14, 2024Aikido: 'Way of harmonizing energy'
If you haven't heard of Aikido before it's the self-defence martial art fighting style designed to use your attacker's strengths and momentum against them.
Fun Fact: It's also how I describe my Dungeon Master style for Dungeons & Dragons.
But this isn't about how awesome I am at make-believe, this is about how the most successful people in the world often turn their negativity into a positive event. The type of people who constantly say life happens for us, not to us.
Essentially, how to use life's momentum against itself and harmonize our energy to create a better life.
I remember seeing an image on Facebook probably 10 years ago or more. It was a picture of a man with a bottle with an X on it, ragged clothes, and a cardboard sign asking for money, his speech bubble said: "I drink because my father drank"
The person next to him looked like a classic businessman, nice suit, and an awesome car next to him, his speech bubble said: "I don't drink because my father drank"
That stuck with me for the longest time, I was constantly surrounded by a 'victim mindset' type of people.
Everything was always someone else's fault, that's probably why for my early years I thought I was the most special, unique person on this planet and the only reason why I wasn't being treated as such was because of everyone else.
Those of you who have followed my story know that I've been through a lot of shit, however, I firmly believe that I'm as amazing at my job and as a person because of those events.
I've always said, I'm glad those terrible things happened to me and not someone I care about. If the universe was going to hand it to someone, I was clearly strong enough to handle it. So it worked out.
Clients initially become motivated because 'enough is enough'
Enough of the 'negative' has happened to them that they decide to turn it into a positive thing. They become angry, scared, motivated, whatever it takes for them to move away from their negative situation.
Life tends to bring more negative energy than positive energy, the main reason being is that we're conditioned to look for the negative because that's what keeps us safe and alive.
Being aware of the danger, staying alert, and living in a constant state of paranoia and anxiety, hey, at least our physical state is alive, right?
Our brain can't comprehend the negative, but it's all we look for in life.
So when life comes swinging that BDE (Bad Day Energy... That's what that stands for, right?) you need to learn to Aikido that shit right out the door.
Use the negativity to create a positive experience. Yeah, it's going to be inconvenient for a short period of time, but life is made out of those small experiences that add up.
Do you want to be the person who takes their dog for a walk first thing in the morning, gets caught in the rain, and takes it as a sign that the rest of the day should be awful?
Or do you want to be the type of person who takes it as a sign to be carefree, let go, and dance?
Let life happen for you instead of to you and you'll watch all of the energy in your life start to harmonize and create momentum you didn't know you were capable of experiencing.
